As the progenitor of solid mass music, Thetford, Vermont's Wicked Louder has set their sights on becoming the next cult band of New England.
Wicked Louder's sole member, Derek P. Lorrigan, began playing piano at age 6, trombone at 11, and belatedly picked the guitar at 19. His previous musical projects include the grunge/funk stylings of Luckless Pedestrian, alt-metal weirdness under the moniker Phuctiveyeno, the industrial darkwave of Spacehopper, some harsh nu-metal clanging in Criolab, and the synth driven goth-hop trio Penny Dreadful. Squeezed in between all of that there was also the discordant noise rock outfit Crotch Rocket and the acoustic indie rock project Edgar's Fist. Neither of those bands ever released music or played a gig but they were important evolutionary steps. He also has a studio based instrumental project, Pro-Grammar, that occasionally plays live and is set to release music later this year.
Wicked Louder's creation of the solid mass sound is based on 80's, 90's, and 00's guitar and synth driven music such as The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Cars, Siouxie and the Banshee's, The Killer's, and Nine Inch Nails. Belief that the personal is political serves as Derek's inspiration to craft intimate and brutally honest rock songs about real life experiences.
Plans to play as many shows as possible top Wicked Louder's 2026 to do list. Work on the next Wicked Louder album has begun. It is shaping up to possibly be a double album with a simultaneous book release. The subject of all that music and writing will be the Derek's reflections, meditations, and flat out rants about being afflicted with a severe mental illness.
Although Wicked Louder is just getting started, the singles For You and Halcyon have been featured on the Boston internet radio station BBR1 - BumbleBeeRadio.com. Frustrated Mess was also reviewed in the August 9-16, 2023 issue of northern Vermont's art rag Seven Days.
There are plans to overhaul and update this website in the coming months. On the list of things to do are creating an archive of previous projects, adding merchandise and credit card checkout, expanding the visual aspects of the website, and having a space to celebrate the achievements of fellow artists creations across a range of artistic disciplines.
